Customer Reviews

Samsung LN52A850 (2009-01-06)
Possibly the best quality 52" LCD flat screen on the market for the price. Delivery was fast and courteous. Out of box setup was easy with plug and play. Using Direct/TV with the HD channels, the picutre quality is superior, and with Blueray, it is crystal clear. If you don't want to go to the theater, this is the next best thing. Coming from a 50" Samsung DLP to this has been a lot of fun.

I love it! (2009-01-06)
The 850 is my second Samsung HDTV, and I'm really glad I chose it over something from the XBR range. The colors are incredibly vibrant and the 120Hz refresh rate really does make a difference. I played around with the refresh settings to see if there was any noticeable video noise when it was set to maximum. Despite hearing that this was a problem, I didn't notice any noise at all.

Playing Blu-ray discs produces almost unbelievably clear images. I put The Fifth Element on and it really did look like a whole different film than what I remembered. PS3 games look really great too.

The built-in speakers are not as bad as some people are making them out to be, but they could be better. Playing around with the equalizer helps tremendously. I sourced my sound through a home theater system and I suspect most people who buy the 850 will be doing the same, so this complaint is probably minor. It's a fantastic set and a good value for the performance.

Clear vision HDTV which makes you see RED (2009-01-06)
Samsung LN52A850 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color

This has to be one of the best buys of the season. The TV is HUGE and so thin for something so big. The screen is clear beyond imagination, especially watching HD channels on cable is a joy. The 120Hz refresh rate means that there is NO blurring with rapidly moving scenes, such as during football games, or watching the BBC's 'Planet Earth' large animal movement scenes.
The surround has a touch of RED to it, which is not significant to affect your decor, but is just about visible when the sun is shining on the TV

Downsides - well, the chimes it makes on start up and shut down, and the fact that the IR gets confused when the morning sun strikes the TV frames and renders the remote useless. However, even in bright sun, this TV shines and the image remains clear and bright.

Completely Blown Away (2009-01-05)
Like many, I've done a lot of research and shopping around for LCDs. For me it came down to the Samsung 850 and the Sony XBR6. What did it for me however was the vast number of available feature on the Samsung and seeing them side by side in local retail store, the picture quality on the Samsung seemed more natural and rich.

So I purchased this TV the day after Christmas and it arrived to Pilot Shipping's local distibution center on New Years Eve. Being the impatient person that I am I opted to go and pick it up with a friend instead of having them deliver it which was another 3 days away.

It took me about 45 minutes to remove my old TV and re-cable my home theatre system, but once done, I have to admit that I was blown away by how truly exceptional this TV is. My girlfriend and I joke all the time that everything you watch looks like a reality show because of how crisp and clear the picture truly is. The Anynet+ feature is really a bonus too since I have a Samsung receiver. One remote controller does infact control your entire theatre system.

There was one hiccup though. During my research I had read posts about "white clouds" and this was quite noticible and distracting when viewing dark scenes. So why still a 5 star rating you ask? Well I proceeded to contact Samsung customer service and was very pleased by how prompt they were in trying to schedule a technician out to take a look at the TV. I've been out of town due to the holidays so I haven't scheduled a date for the technician as yet but I'll be sure to follow up to let you know how that whole process went.

Customer service was one of my biggest concerns as I had also heard that Samsung did not provide timely or prompt service. This doesn't look to be the case.

There is nothing to second guess about this product! It's worth the price and you won't have buyers remorse.

Why Did I wait so long.... (2009-01-05)
So I'm one of those...research to death, get ready to push the buy button, just can't. I have been researching this and other 50-60 inch models for 3 years. Our family is a long line of know every detail before you buy anything kind of people. To be honest we LOVED the Pioneer line (Elite, Kuro) and kept asking is it worth the extra money (the TONS of extra money) for the AMAZING picture quality. The blacks are so deep and it just stands out from the crowd. That was until this Smasung hit the market. For more than 3,000 dollars LESS we have got an AMAZING Picture quality that words can't describe. Our main issue has always been that the room this TV is placed in is an open floor plan living room/kitchen that is very large and has many viewing angles. Add to the fact that there is tons of light from 6 large windows in the two rooms (basically two walls of windows- on the right side a full wall of 5 windows and the one large window facing the tv). We mounted this tv above the fireplace with a articulating mount that can do handstands. I have to say that in full sunlight the picture on this TV from ANYWHERE in ANY ROOM is AMAZING...no dip in color, no haze, no glare...just deep 3D picture quality with deep dark colors, not pixel distortion, no haze or refresh issues....just clean deep picture that makes movies I have seen hundreds of times look new and like the people are in the room with me. My 6 year old even asks if we can watch the TV where you think you can touch the people vs. our 42" Panasonic upstairs!

Simply put....if you are sitting on the couch waiting for a better TV or Price to come along.....just BUY! This is it and worth the push of the button. I would go more into the tech details, but other reviewers hit on them and I hate repeats. We have a Dish Network system and have had no issue at all with our remotes. We are so THrilled with this system and I am most happy that I saved 4,000 in choosing this 52" over the 50" pioneer I was sure I couldn't live without. For a well lit room and viewing angles from every corner of a very large set of rooms....we are thrilled!!!! (well would have been happier if we would have seen Texas Tech win the Cotton Bowl on our new TV, but can't blame Samsung for that...or can we?).

Hope this helps someone....I will post if we run into any issues...but this is our 2nd Samsung purchase in 2 years...we are pleased, very pleased with their products. We replaced a Sony XBR with this unit and THRILLED that we did. Will NEVER buy Sony product EVER AGAIN. There is NO customer service with Sony and their product all break down within 2 years or less. We had MAJOR issues with our TV and no help at all from Sony ever....just an offer to flag our account because we seemed to want warranty to fix issues that were covered and that was something Sony just couldn't do....esp. with only 1 month left on our warranty. Needless to say I am not the only Sony avoider in my group...so don't even consider them!

Good Luck and Happy Buying!
